Prince’s Golf Club – One of Britain’s Best

Prince’s is part of Kent’s great triumvirate – along with Royal Cinque Ports (which is just a stone’s throw away) and Royal St George’s. At the beginning of the 19th century it was decided that new links golf course should be built right next to Royal St George’s, in Sandwich, to be open for juniors, ladies and men. The Earl of Guildford donated the land which was to be the platform for the golf course; Charles Hutchings (1902 Amateur Champion) and Percy Lucas were put in charge for designing the original 18-hole track, which opened for play in 1907. My latest golfing expedition was to The Oxfordshire Golf Hotel & Spa, which is situated near the town of Thame in Oxfordshire – just over an hour away from central London (traffic permitting of course). My experience started from the office on a Friday night, the plan was to get there in the evening, have some food, stay the night and then enjoy a round of golf the following morning. More >

Within the last couple of days there has been some exciting news for fans of Northern Irish golf, with the announcement of Bushmills Dunes Golf Resort and Spa – a future 18-hole links golf course and hotel just a few minutes from Royal Portrush and Giant’s Causeway. It has at long last been given the go ahead, after more than a decade after the initial planning application was submitted, by Northern Ireland’s High Court. More >

Playing the Brabazon – The Belfry

The Brabazon is one of those golf courses that does not need introducing, it’s played host to more Ryder Cups than any other course in the world (four in total)! Just recently I was lucky enough to be given my own opportunity to “try” and recreate one or two of these magical Ryder Cup moments, such as Christy O’Connor Jnr’s 2-iron on the 18th or the countless attempts to drive the iconic par-4 10th hole. Changes Well Underway at the Old Course

Dec 11th

The game of golf has seen a number of changes recently. Just a couple of weeks ago the R&A, combined with the USGA, announced the drastic new rule that will see the ‘anchoring’ technique of belly putters banned in 2016. It has been over 100 years since golf was last seen as an Olympic sport, but with Rio 2016 on the horizon the sport will once again see professionalscompete for their country. Players are now drug tested and now women can, in theory play in the Open. Golf is seeing lots of changes, so why should there be controversy when changes happen to a golf course? More >
